Help & Contact

Music Pairs is a concentration game with music: the face-down cards hide songs, each exactly twice. Find the pairs by their songs – for 2 to 8 players on one device.

Frequently asked questions

Why isn’t Spotify supported?

Connecting Spotify is technically quite possible, but unfortunately Spotify’s Developer Policy explicitly prohibits using its interfaces for games and quizzes. That is why Music Pairs cannot offer Spotify as a song source.

Songs saved offline in Spotify can’t be used either: they stay encrypted inside the Spotify app and can’t be read by other apps.

How do I play – and where is the introduction?

Every card hides a song – and each song is there exactly twice. Taking turns, you turn over two cards and try to find the pairs. Whoever finds a pair scores a point and goes again right away; whoever has the most points at the end wins. Two to eight people can play on one device.

On first launch, Music Pairs shows a short introduction with a practice round. You can open it again any time via the book icon on the start screen or under Settings → “Help” → “Introduction”.

Music Pairs can’t find my music / I denied access

Music Pairs needs your permission to access your music. If you declined on first launch, you can grant it later in the system settings:

  • iOS/iPadOS: Settings → Apps → Music Pairs → turn on “Media & Apple Music”.
  • Android: Settings → Apps → Music Pairs → Permissions → allow “Music and audio” (on older Android versions “Files and media” or “Storage”).

Then pick the source in Music Pairs under Settings → “Song Source”. With “On this device”, only songs actually stored on the device are played.

Apple Music: some songs are skipped or not offered

In Music Pairs, Apple Music is available as a song source on iPhone and iPad only. Without an active Apple Music subscription, only songs you bought or downloaded to the device can be played – songs that exist only in the cloud are left out.

Apple does not tell the app in advance for every song whether it can be played. Music Pairs checks beforehand, but now and then a song only fails once it starts – the card then stays silent and the game carries on as usual. With a subscription, your whole library is playable.

What is Audius, and why does it need the internet?

Audius is a free music platform where artists publish their own music. Music Pairs can take songs from the Audius charts, by genre or from Audius playlists – no music collection of your own needed, on iPhone, iPad and Android.

For this, Music Pairs needs an internet connection. Before a game, only the parts that are needed are loaded. On Wi-Fi this happens right away; on mobile data Music Pairs asks first. The catalogue leans towards indie and electronic music – you will rarely find mainstream chart hits there.

Where are player photos and the game history stored – and how do I delete them?

Everything stays on your device. There is no player account, and neither photos nor game history are transmitted anywhere.

  • Player photos are kept in memory only by default and are gone once Music Pairs is closed. Only if you turn on Settings → “Store photos permanently” are they saved on your device (excluded from device backups). Turning the option off deletes all stored photos immediately.
  • Game history: under “Game History”, the trash icon at the top right deletes all of it.
  • If you uninstall Music Pairs, all of the app’s data is removed from your device.
